Aunty Dorothy

Dear Precious Ladies

Welcome to the month of August. His grace has seen us through.

Paul says "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them—though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me." 1 Corinthians 15:10

I was reflecting on the sudden death of a very special friend commonly known as "Aunty Dorothy". She was a very vibrant and God fearing woman, always serving cheerfuly. She would not miss church for any reason. You would know if she was in church by her loud 'Amen!'s and 'Praise the Lord!'. She had a special way of dancing and related to people cross-culturally. She also mingled with the youths and was young at heart. She was always giving and supportive of every one. She had a heart for the poor and visited prisoners. Not only did she have inner beauty but she also had a particular way of dressing!! At 70 she was perming her hair that had highlights. She always changed hair styles and did manicures and pedicures. Her home was open to all. She always smiled from her heart and related to people across the churches. She was a kingdom minded woman.

Last Tuesday we were together at a birthday party for one of our sisters in the Lord. Aunty Dorothy was beaming with Joy. She was as fit as a fiddle. Her golden tooth was shining as she laughed when I commented about her ginger highlights. We enjoyed ourselves and left after 10pm.

The next day i got a call that Aunty Dorothy had just passed away. It was such a shock. I heard that she complained of stomach pain and was rushed to hospital. Within 2 hours she passed away. As I write this letter, Aunty Dorothy has not yet been buried. She did not make it to August!

My dear sisters it is by the Grace of God that we have all made it to August! We are what we are and we have what we have by Grace.

Like Aunty Dorothy, let us create good memories by living lives that bless others. Let us treasure the relationships that God has given us. Aunty Dorothy made a difference by doing simple things that blessed others as simple as a heartfelt hug and smile.

In this new month that the Lord has given us let's spend our time wisely. Let us love the Lord passionately and serve others passionately with love and humility. May His Grace empower all of us to walk in His ways and may His Grace help us to achieve our goals for August. May his Grace keep us from all evil.

I leave you with Psalm 90:12..."So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart."
